10 Tips for a Story-Telling Game

There is something about a told story which makes it more interesting kind of art. It makes it very different from those offered by movies, television or radio. The story-teller is right in your midst and the thrill of the story is shared both – you and the listeners.

How amazing it is when a story-teller can make the stories come to life: the events, people and places. They have the ability to tell a story that makes our mind soar. In planning a story-telling game, you must remember these helpful pointers:

  1. Pick portable folding camping chairs that give a comfy and relaxing feeling while you are seated. Something that will not cause back aches and tired legs.
  2. Know when to tell a story. At night, before going to sleep is the best time for story-telling, since the atmosphere is smooth and cool.
  3. Select a story that you will enjoy telling. No matter how popular it may be, do not try to tell the story if you can not deliver it clearly. If the story is not funny to you, it will not appear comic to your listeners. Try telling a story about your adventure at the place they have not been to, your most embarrassing experience or unforgettable moment.
  4. Look for a favorable place where you will hold the story-telling game. Somewhere with not much noise and not crowded.
  5. Arrange the folding chair in a circular shape, so everyone is able to see the story-teller.
  6. Let the listeners sit back and relax. They must be comfortably settled before you begin the story. If you are the one telling a story, you have to sit at a level your listeners will not strain their necks to look at you.
  7. Have popcorns, peanuts and beverages served too!
  8. Prepare a space for other persons who might be encouraged to join the story-telling game. You don’t want to be disturbed in the middle of a breathtaking story – just to make way for one new listener. So better add two to three empty portable camping chair.
  9. Choose stories that are simple but interesting. For instance, legends about old places, fairytales, folklore, real stories. You have passed that stage of Mother Goose rhymes and five to seven year-old favorites. We bet you still love to hear stories that begin with “Once upon a time…”
  10. Tell the story naturally. Make hand moves. Use effective vocal speech chords. Make it real by showing facial expressions and making faces. But do not try to be exaggerated like your whole body is moving.

In addition, be sure to know the story very well. Lay back at the outdoor chair while telling a story, it shows confidence and makes you the author as well. Avoid long contradictions or explanations. Never explain the story. If the story did not do it, the ending as well will not. After that, let everyone discuss the story. Listen to their comments first before striking your own. Ask if there are points they did not understand and if they want to know more.

Listening to a story or even being a story teller not only deepens your knowledge about others, but also makes you feel good about being yourself. If you became the favorite story-teller of your group - that’s great! Though telling a story for more than thirty-minutes can be very tiring. Continue the fun – pick folding camping chair that let you sit back, relax and enjoy the story-telling game.
